At the risk of alienating some of my more ‘hardcore’ friends, I would say that the freedom is not ‘absolute’ and should never be taken for granted.

Singaporeans are pragmatic. People are losing jobs, so who can be bothered if the liberals are feuding with the conservatives?

According to a recent poll conducted by The Sunday Times, 55 out of the 100 poll respondents did not follow the saga at Aware, and 70 said they didn’t care. (more…)

Is it because he is that bad and only deserved that paltry sum? Or is it because he is cheap, that’s why he was hired?

Bad photoshopping; dubious award being awarded to dubious works; fight over one’s copyright; debate over one’s idea being misappropriated; ‘incompetent’ wedding photographer ruining a wedding.

Most people, when asked about photography in Asia, will say that it doesn’t have a long history or a strong tradition. It is also not far-fetched to say that in this part of our world, success is often still measured by how well one does in the West, leaving little concern in general for Asian photography.

In a recent dialogue session between the new Information and Arts Minister of Singapore and local visual artists, the topic of building a museum for photography came up. (more…)
