July 13 - September 3, 2022

I have spent much of my past three years setting up and running Pictures of the Year Asia(POY Asia) with Lynden Steele, Director of Pictures of the Year International(POYI). Two competitions later, we are proud that the first-ever POY Asia exhibition has opened at the Mindful Art Forum(MAF), a private gallery in Seoul, South Korea and will run from July 13 to September 3, 2022. The exhibition is a result of the hard work by Suejin Shin, a POY Asia judge in 2021 and the Director of LAMPLAMB, who was suitably impressed with the works she saw and our direction after judging the inaugural competition to start exploring this possibility last year. Founded in 1944 by University of Missouri Professor Cliff Edom, POY’s initial exhibit was entitled “The First Annual Fifty-Print Exhibition of New and Feature Pictures”. In honor of Edom’s first exhibit, the inaugural POY Asia exhibition features 50 award-winning images from the POY Asia 2022 competition. As part of the opening, a forum titled “The truth revealed by photojournalism and documentary photography in our era” was held at the gallery on July 12, 2022.

April 4 - May 20, 2018

In August 2013, as a run-up to the 50th anniversary of Singapore attaining political independence, the PLATFORM team launched the TwentyFifteen.sg initiative to publish 20 books, containing 15 images each, by 20 Singapore photographers. TwentyFifteen.sg published almost one book every month for two years, culminating in an exhibition featuring all 20 books at Jendela (Visual Arts Space) at Esplanade–Theatres by the Bay in August 2015. As a spin-off to TwentyFifteen.sg, we also created +50 This Is Singapore, a two-volume compilations of works by up-an-coming photographers based in Singapore. In 2018, I was invited by Pera Museum in Istanbul, Turkey to curate an exhibition – Singapore Unseen – a show based on the two book projects.

April 25 - May 12, 2019

For nearly a year, I worked on Chinatown, a book and exhibition project for photographer Sha Ying. Apart from all the designs for the book and show, I also brokered a sponsorship package with HP for all the fine art prints, framing and workshops. The one-stop consultancy also includes the building of a micro-site1-on-1 interview, as well as general business and social media strategy.

September 3 - 18, 2018

Answers Without Words is a photographic dialogue between prisoners in Columbia River Correctional Institution and the rest of the world.  It involved 30 prisoners and 17 international photographers. The project also extended to a whole class of 24 photography students at Sacramento State University taught by Pete Brook. The prisoners and photographers have sent questions back and forth and have answered those questions in photographs only. While some of the photographs were created in countries all over the world – chosen by the prisoners as places they were curious about, others were composed in the very restricted and limited surroundings of a prison classroom. The result of all this work is culminating in two parallel exhibitions, one at the prison and one at Cascade Paragon Gallery.
