Don’t tell Shin Min Ah, Lee Bo Young and Gong Hyo-jin but I really like Jung Ryeo-won a lot too.
In Witch at Court, she plays a brash prosecutor who will resort to dirty tricks to win. She eats with one leg on the stool like a rickshaw rider, devours alone food meant for three grown men, swears like a GI.
But she is super funny and knows how to really act with her face.
Can’t say the same for male lead, whose name I can’t be bothered to look up.
Look past the comic in this series and you will find some really sad stories of sexual harassment and crimes. Fake victims who lie, and real culprits who lie even more.
Of course, no Korean series is complete without a jibe at the social and political system. Is it really so bad in real life? That calls for a more thorough investigation, so is the question on why the young actresses are generally better than the actors.
Coming back to Ryeo-won(see we are on first-name basis?), her greatest strength is not taking herself seriously. Don’t think you can find a ruder prosecutor in the entire Korean Peninsula.
Forget about dainty, this is one manipulative bitch/witch.
But but, she has a softer side and is ultra sharp.
I keep thinking she can be in the next My Sassy Girl but then I also think, she doesn’t need to be in anyone’s shadow.
