Towako Omameda must be one of the luckiest women on earth, if not at least in Japan.
Thrice married and thrice divorced, she gets along perfectly with all her exes.
Therefore, My Dear Exes. And even more amazingly, they all get along with each other.
For the guys, they are bonded conveniently by the fact that none of them wants their ex to have a new love.
Fourth husband to them will be worse than their individual divorce.
Takako Matsu, best known for her surreal role in Confessions, shows a very comical side of her in this star-studded series.
But this is hardly just a mushy-lovey-dovey series.
Connecting all the dots are the other characters who complete the architect-turned-administrator.
How does one balance work, relationships, especially a very special one with childhood friend Kogome, and a delightful daughter who is constantly challenging everyone on how a Japanese woman should be?
“Why study so hard to be a doctor when you can just marry one?”, young Uta often wonders.
Is this something Towako will approve? Obviously not.
Most people will shriek from the idea of another coupledom after one break-up but for Towako, fourth remains a possibility.
Don’t bother guessing, I’ve joined the queue. If the perfect person for me is one who makes me laugh, I think I won’t look further than Towako.
But, like what I’ve always said, “Don’t just take my words for it. See for yourself.”
P.s. This is the first series I watched in 2022 and I’m happy about that.
