Mom’s stay in the hospital was often made more palatable because of the little radio she kept close to her.

Among the thousands of images I made in the past three months, this has to be one of my favorites. Stuck in the hospital on the eve of Chinese New Year, Mom took a walk around her ward with the help of my sister Kay Hwee and my nephew Boon Yi. When they stopped by the family room, they found Mom’s room mate having a little lo hei with her sister and were duly invited to join in. It looks as if they just discovered water in the desert.

Stuck in the hospital on New Year’s Eve, my mom and nephew were invited by her room-mate Mdm Siok Hong Ink and her sister Nguk Ink to an impromptu lo-hei in ward 48 day room.
