100 Pictures

About this compilation

As a photographer, I have always found it useful to learn from other image-makers. Over the decades, I have constructed many mental lists of which images influenced, moved or (ahem) disturbed me. The listing, of course, evolves all the time. Good or bad, these pictures helped to shape me and my own work.

My reasons for putting this official list together are simple. First, you can call it a tribute of sort. Second, since writing is a big part of my practice, I want to try to articulate aloud why each image features in my thinking and in doing so. Third, and probably the most important — I want to share these pictures that play/played a role in my life with everyone.

Of course, and needless to say, this compilation is personal. But I won’t just be saying I like this or I like that. Hopefully, I will be able to verbalise the reasons why they are here.
