[ J ] Kekkon Dekinai Otoko aka He Who Can’t Marry

I am taking a short break from Korean dramas to watch Kekkon Dekinai Otoko aka He Who Can’t Marry, currently on Netflix.

It is not new but it has two of my favorites – Hiroshi Abe and Yui Natsukawa. If you like film by Hirokazu Koreeda, you will remember that Abe and Natsukawa are in Still Walking together. Abe is also the ‘lousy’ son in Koreeda’s After The Storm.

Hiroshi Abe is such a good actor that when he plays someone irritating or despicable, you really want to hate him.

An OCD and socially awkward architect, he behaves like he hates people. Regardless how he feels, he only seems capable of faux pas whenever he opens his mouth.

Natsukawa on the other hand is too nice but perhaps too matronly for some men. She works long hours and eat vegetarian ramen every other night because popular restaurants are just no-no for single women like her.

Of course they fall in love in the end:)

It’s funny enough for me to watch it the second time. Considering what’s available these days, I think it speaks volume about this rom com:)
